MagWasteVal Project—Towards Sustainability of Mining Waste

In the direction of sustainable mining solid waste management and eventually zero-waste production, MagWasteVal research program aimed to achieve proper handling massive quantities extractive originating from magnesite mines after enrichment process useful ore. The main objectives this project were both investigation geochemical variables affecting serpentinization (degradation) respected exploitation further valorization stocked-pilled (inert) wastes in area. study thermal treatment (considering heating duration temperature) addition various additives (alumina, chromite ore, run mine, iron oxide, magnesia) showed that optimum upgrade for samples occurs when a combination magnesia (according defined molar ratio: [MgO] + [FeO])/[SiO2] = 2) oxide approximately 2.5% is applied at 1300 1600 °C 120 min. final products may have potential applications, even on large scale, production alternative refractory materials/services, substituting other raw materials, presenting economic environmental benefits.
